This is out of an e-mail I received...

From a Japanese Production company trying to put together a documentary on the origin of RUDOLPH:
The decision has been made based on the negative response from the original book's copyright management, Character Arts, stating that they'd prefer to promote Rudolph as a myth or legend itself but not to promote its creator.(Their exact words were "Promoting Robert May as Rudolph's creator is like telling kids Santa Claus doesn't exist.") This conflicts our program's concept.

Absolutely, Absurd! Shame on ENTERTAINMENT RIGHTS. Kids do not watch documentaries about the creation of a character..adults do. Sounds like kids are running this company.

THE STARVING ARTISTS

This is the STARVING ARTISTS literally! I am helping Scott Thill at WIRED MAGAZINE with a little spot article on the famous band from MAD MONSTER PARTY performing "The Mummy." Maury Laws could not remember who actually performed the song BUT it is rumored to be DYKE & THE BLAZERS.

Projects

I am working on so many projects right now, it is hard to keep up. Many have been e-mailing me about a 3rd printing of my first book THE ENCHANTED WORLD OF RANKIN/BASS: A PORTFOLIO. I plan on doing it before the Holidays. Not sure how big the print run will be yet or if it will be a very LIMITED hardcover or softcover BUT stay tuned here! Doug Ranney is transferring the original files as I type this to a new format.

PAUL COKER, JR.

Had a very nice talk with my old pal PAUL COKER, JR. on Sunday! He is working on the art for our Holiday 2008 postcard and will be signing them as well! PAUL designed most of the RANKIN/BASS TV Specials, series and films! He is still doing work for MAD MAGAZINE and had two new pages assigned to him. His HALLMARK card work has slowed down, due to the fact that they have hundreds on file at this point. What a GREAT and unique artist!

HANNA-BARBERA BUBBLE CLUB

My pal STEPHEN TOTO sent this BUBBLE CLUB box to JOSH and I today! This one is the hardest to find. FRED FLINTSTONE and HUCKLEBERRY HOUND are enjoying a nice bubble bath together, high up in the sky, in a hot air balloon! UP UP AND AWAY in my beautiful balloon! Where is PETER POTOMUS & SO SO? GREAT idea to include cards of the characters from the SECRET SQUIRREL and ATOM ANT shows! Any kid would love getting dirty to get their hands on those in 1966!

My friend BOB ECKSTEIN sent me his wonderful, hardcover, holiday book! I assisted Bob with this seasonal delight! Bob is a humorous writer and writes weekly columns for NEWSDAY, THE VILLAGE VOICE and TIME OUT NEW YORK. His cartoons and artwork have appeared in THE NEW YORKER, THE NEW YORK TIMES, SPY MAGAZINE and DETAILS.

I am going to have PAUL COKER, JR. sign and do a RANKIN/BASS Holiday postcard for 2008 of FROSTY THE SNOWMAN like this! FROSTY is melting! The wonderful UPA FROSTY THE SNOWMAN! I grew up with this and the RANKIN/BASS specials!
