ROGER McGUINN in Elgin, IL Jingling and jangling

I took a long ride out to Elgin, IL tonight to see Rock N' Roll Hall of famer and friend ROGER McGUINN in concert at the HEMMENS CULTURAL CENTER. Roger and THE BYRDS have had a huge influence on my playing and music over the years and this is why I own a McGuinn 12 string Rickenbacker guitar. You can really hear his influence on my song "James Byron Dean" on RICK GOLDSCHMIDT SINGS. Roger played a great show and used a variety of guitars and musical styles.
TURN, TURN, TURN
This was a picture Roger wanted to use on his website, because I am wearing his ROGER McGUINN LIMITED EDITION polo shirt. I call the shot GAS GIANTS 2, because ROBIN and PHILLIP were in a band with another guy called the GAS GIANTS shortly after the GIN BLOSSOMS disbanded.

No flash photography at the show, so I wasn't able to get any good pictures BUT the back stories that Roger told were very interesting about his days with THE LIMELIGHTERS, CHAD MITCHELL TRIO and BOBBY DARIN...before THE BYRDS.

ARTHUR RANKIN, JR. and JULES BASS

I heard from ARTHUR RANKIN yesterday. He is a very generous man and a good friend. Happy to help him out whenever I can.

SCOTT JOHNSON

My pal SCOTTY JOHNSON, lead guitarist of the GIN BLOSSOMS, performed on my first two cds as well. He created some wonderful guitar work and thinks very differently than I do, when it comes to solos and rhythm and that is what made his participation so special. He has a solo CD out now and you can find it on his MY SPACE music page.

GEROGE KELLER: An amazing Engineer

George Keller, Robin Wilson and Myself at URANUS RECORDING in Tempe, AZ
George is an amazing engineer and worked on my first two cds. We have a wonderful working relationship and have become friends over the years. I never have to say much during the mix downs, because he pretty much nails it right away. Robin only works with quality people and George is definitely one of them.

PHILLIP RHODES

Phillip Rhodes is the original GIN BLOSSOMS drummer. He no longer plays with the band, SCOTT KUSMIREK is their hired gun now. During my first session in TEMPE, AZ, Phillip had rejoined the band briefly and played drums on my songs "Goodbye" and "Brand New Love." I really liked the sound he had and what an amazing drummer.

My sister LINDSEY performing with THE STARVING ARTISTS. She also has recorded with us at HAIR BEAR RECORDING and has a great voice. We sang together on "I'll Never fall in love again" by Burt Bacharach

Sunday music...

We added some slide guitar to "Drama Free"

Beautiful day out today in Chicagoland

We planned on recording today BUT ended up rehearsing and tightening up the songs that much more. Unfortunately, we set something up with an unreliable party.
