Email Rickgoldsc@aol.com I had a question about RANKIN/BASS' THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY today :) The question was...Is there a print of the film that is out on DVD that has the correct GREER GARSON spoken line (That can be heard on the LP/CD) towards the end of the special, that was incorrectly dubbed with the scratch vocal by PAUL FREES? Answer: Not to my knowledge. It is possible that the original VHS releases (before it was re-mastered), may have had the correct GREER GARSON track. I haven't checked the old VHS versions. I also recall that the sound effect track was intact back then...which had the Drummer Boy's drum sounds before and after the song "Why Can't The Animals Smile?" Here is a inside story that hasn't been talked about much. The singer of "Why Can't The Animals Smile?" was not TEDDY ECCLES, who voiced Aaron. It was an uncredited DICK BEALS (SPEEDY ALKA-SELTZER, BUZZ CONROY, etc.) Also, the classic RANKIN/BASS special has not come out on BLU RAY yet, because it has only been re-mastered from a 16mm B Roll. There is a 35mm print and NBC-TV always aired it from a 35mm print BUT it hasn't been located.
