DENNIS STOCK 1928-2010

We were sorry to hear that Dennis Stock passed away. He took many of the iconic photographs of James Dean, originally for a LIFE MAGAZINE story.
His most famous photograph.

His photographs made up much of the Robert Altman film THE JAMES DEAN STORY

James with his cousin Marcus Winslow

Marcus showed Josh and I many of the photographs that were on display for a museum event. We talked about Dennis Stock. Marcus was so happy that Stock preserved so much of his cousin's short life in photographs.

James Dean's last visit home to Fairmount, Indiana. Stock said, "I liked him sometimes, but not all of the time...But he was like family after awhile. We really bonded in Indiana. Not in New York, where he was distracted a lot. He was an insomniac and didn't get a lot of sleep and was a pain." I wrote the song "James Byron Dean" for RICK GOLDSCHMIDT SINGS with these photographs in mind.
