Christmas eve

Looks like my friend Robert Morse passed away at 90. He was in three Rankin/Bass TV Specials and he treasured his relationship with Rankin/Bass and was a supporter of mine. I will watch How to succeed in business without really trying and Quick, before it melts (where he teams up with my friend George Maharis age 93). Masaki Iizuka remembered

 This was a photo I took at the Museum of Broadcast in New York 2003 at the evening with Arthur Rankin, Jr..  I sat with Masaki.

 This is my favorite picture I took of him!  We were on our way back to Arthur's place after passing Tiffany's.

Masaki talked about how all of the Animagic animators felt they never quite lived up to the legend of Tad Mochinaga and what he did with Rankin/Bass' Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.  While the technique on the Rankin/Bass specials progressed, they always looked at that special as the best!

This special is now out on DVD in the new RED box set entitled CHRISTMAS CLASSIC FAVORITES (Should have the name RANKIN/BASS in the title BUT they put HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS in the box set too for some unknown reason). The box set is available at TARGET. Love the PAUL COKER, JR. model sheets for this special and the animation stayed pretty true to his style.
