FAIRMOUNT, INDIANA pics Volume 3

A picture of us with David Loehr sent by Lenny! David runs the JAMES DEAN GALLERY and is the author of THE JAMES DEAN COLLECTORS GUIDE (Which I highly recommend, if you collect James Dean). The store is open 9-6 pm daily and their phone # is 765-948-3326.

There is a famous shot of JAMES DEAN shot for LIFE MAGAZINE where he and Marky pose by this tomb stone (photo above in two parts). James had just finished filming EAST OF EDEN and played the character of Cal. Cal Dean was Jimmy's great grandfather and was an auctioneer. In the film THE JAMES DEAN STORY (directed by Robert Altman and George W. George), Jimmy asks about his great grandfather Cal with a hidden microphone in his sleeve. Josh spotted this tomb from the road as we were driving by.

Josh took this picture of Rocky Winslow. He liked the fact that he could roam the entire farm.

We got to go through some pictures that were sent to MARK from a display/exhibit in Europe (4 boxes worth). He is going to try to display them around his car garage. 60 MINUTES was out a few weeks ago to do a piece. He may use my song "James Byron Dean" from RICK GOLDSCHMIDT SINGS, if the right project comes along. He co-Produced the excellent documentary JAMES DEAN: FOREVER YOUNG, which is available on DVD.

Jimmy drove this car around Fairmount when he would visit. This is the car he took to the High School dance when he came back for the LIFE Magazine shoot.

A collection from GIANT! The fence (from the roof of the home in the film) and theatre display are at the Historical museum.

A very cool trip to FAIRMOUNT, INDIANA to visit the home of JAMES DEAN!

James Dean would have been 78 this year and next weekend is the 53rd Anniversary of his untimely death. Josh and I paid a visit to PARK CEMETERY and the Winslow farm and home. It was a beautiful day to visit with his cousin Marcus Winslow, Jr. on the farm. Many more pictures to follow. Jimmy is our favorite actor.

The INDIAN MOTORCYCLE SHOP is where Jimmy bought his first motorcycle (Which is on display at the FAIRMOUNT HISTORICAL MUSEUM).

A bronze statue of Jimmy by artist Kenneth Kendall in Mark's office. It is exactly like the one that was stolen many years ago at PARK CEMETERY.

Vintage Cars in the Winslow garage. Yes...that is a FIRE TRUCK you see in the background. Mark was a fireman for thirty plus years.

Marky was James' cousin but he was like having a little brother to James. Jimmy was 13 when Marky was born. Jimmy was raised by his aunt and uncle.

Mark tells me that Dean Jeffries did the original detail on Jimmy's Spyder, even though George Barris takes credit for it. He also wishes they would have kept COMPETITION MOTORS open as a museum BUT they tore it down in recent years.
