Christmas in July! 50 years ago

Christmas in July! 50 years ago, RANKIN/BASS PRODUCTIONS (VIDEOCRAFT INTERNATIONAL, LIMITED), were very busy making changes to their landmark TV Special RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, due to Willard H. Sahloff's (Vice President at General Electric and former Montgomery Ward's merchandising executive) request. Some scenes, such as the ending, were never to air again on network televsion. A new scene and song were shot and recorded, called "Fame & Fortune," among many other changes detailed in my book:

Another article Bill gave me during the making of my Rudolph book

Bill Giles: Sound Engineer at the RCA studios in Canada for the recording sessions for Rankin/Bass' Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Here is a picture of Bill Giles, The Head Sound Engineer on Rankin/Bass' Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer recording sessions at the RCA Victor Canadian studios. Bill helped me with my book THE MAKING OF THE RANKIN/BASS HOLIDAY CLASSIC: RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER (Miser Bros Press) in 2001. He recalled the fact that Larry D. Mann recorded not only his Yukon Cornelius part, but the part of Sam the Snowman. Today, I had a very strange guy accuse me of getting that info from him (There has been a few people coming out of left field with unfounded accusations lately). They put something in the MASHABLES article about this fact that they either got from my book or CBS, not my recent interview with them. This accuser obviously didn't even read my book

RANKIN/BASS' RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER

c. 1964 RANKIN/BASS PRODUCTIONS/RICK GOLDSCHMIDT ARCHIVES

I read the NEWSDAY article and it was rotten. It doesn't even title the special correctly as RANKIN/BASS or include what I said. Isn't it sad that NEWS of today is focused on the bizarre and "so called" stars (of reality TV)? If you write a book that says bad things about the longest-running, highest-rated TV special of all-time, you get attention?! I am glad I did just the opposite :)
