Looking back on one of my many Rudolph interviews......

50th Anniversary interview for ABC7 Chicago

I enjoy being the expert on Rankin/Bass' Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and am adding things to my collection and learning things every day.   Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass Produced the longest-running, highest-rated television special of all-time and that is why I wrote the book on it!  You can get the book with everything you wanted to know about the special right here:  http://miserbros.com/shop/books/the-making-of-rudolph-the-red-nosed-reindeer-hard-cover/

I want to Thank my pal Mitch O' Connell for giving me not only his original black and white art for this, but for the color piece that is hanging in an art show he participated in because of me :)

c. 1964 RANKIN/BASS PRODUCTIONS/RICK GOLDSCHMIDT ARCHIVES

This is the photo (transparency) I lent GOLDEN BOOKS for the 2nd edition of the DVD release for the cover. The first cover featured some poor artwork. Initially, GOLDEN BOOKS credited me for not only the cover photo (on the back cover of the DVD) BUT also all of the photos during the Arthur Rankin introduction. These are the editions that have the name RANKIN/BASS right on the front covers (As they should have to this day). Then about 4 years after these releases (Somewhere around 2002), my credit and the name RANKIN/BASS mysteriously disappeared. As a result, Arthur Rankin asked that his introductions (Which made it a much better and special DVD) be removed.

JOHNNY MARKS

Robert L. May's brother-in-law came along and took RUDOLPH and turned him into a musical sensation! The first big hit was recorded by Gene Autry and many recorded the tune after him. Johnny was Arthur Rankin's neighbor and he convinced him to make the TV Spectacular. Marks wrote all of the songs for the 1964 classic.
