 Howard Beckerman R. I. P. It looks like my friend Howard passed away. I always loved this 1963 picture Howard sent me of himself, with his

daughter Amy. This was the year that Howard story boarded Rankin/Bass' Return to Oz TV Special, which was their first TV special. The Special aired in February of 1964, on the same night The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan show for the first time. First appearing on NBC's The General Electric Fantasy hour, everyone thought Return to Oz would be the big hit! Ten months later, Rankin/Bass Productions Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer hit the air waves on December 6th, 1964, and went down in history. My friend TONY PETERS did pass away in New York this past Sunday. Tony designed many wonderful things for RANKIN/BASS in the early days of the studio. He gave me the picture above and designed these elves and this style of ANIMAGIC. I devoted a chapter in my book THE MAKING OF THE RANKIN/BASS HOLIDAY CLASSIC: RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER to him and he was proud of it and said his grand children were too. He will definitely be missed. He loved to talk about his work on the GRANTRAY-LAWRENCE cartoons too. He developed ROCKET ROBINHOOD and also worked on the classic MARVEL SUPER HERO cartoons. I love the work he did on THE NEW ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO, TALES OF THE WIZARD OF OZ, WILLY McBEAN & HIS MAGIC MACHINE and of course RUDOLPH!

Amazing find for my NEW book project....

My friend Gary also found this! It will be featured in my new book project that I am working on with Taylor White/PERCEPTO! RANKIN/BASS (Videocraft International), in 1959, before they were even a company yet, were going to work with TRANS-LUX on their Animated TV series. in 1960, ARTHUR RANKIN formed his company with JULES BASS and LARRY ROEMER. Their first idea was illustrated by Tony Peters. It was going to be a cel animated series of WILLY McBEAN & HIS MAGIC MACHINE. Tony told me he worked on this when he was in the army. Arthur Rankin, Jr. ultimately wrote a film script for this project and decided to do it as an ANIMAGIC feature film in 1965. I Love these simple, UPA style TONY PETERS designs! I also LOVE the feature film, which I have on DVD re-mastered for $20 PAYPAL Rickgoldsc@aol.com Looks like PABLO was originally going to be a Parrot, instead of a Monkey.
