This first Ray Kroc owned McDonald's in Des Plaines, which opened in 1955 was removed by some idiots in corporate several years back. A Shame! Looks like 400 Burger Kings are set to close this year!

Hi Rick.  I just ran across your blogger site, and noticed that you had a photo of Ronald McDonald on his flying Hamburger.  The actor in the photo is not Ray Rayner.  The clown is Michael “Coco” Polakovs who portrayed TV Ronald from 1965 until 1968.  Ray Rayner took over the role during 1968, followed by King Moody in 1969.  I have  some photos of Ray and Coco in photo albums on my page Filming in McDonaldland.  I tried posting this on your blog, but wasn’t successful, so I thought I’d contact you in messenger.  Feel free to use my Ronald photos.  Thanks. The only reasons I went to these locations was to enjoy the historical content and take pictures.  I did eat when I visited.   No more!   Why go to a regular McDonald's, when there are so many other, better choices in the area?   They say they are doing this for their future?  Their future looks mighty dim to me.   I will never return to either location and I have been there many times over the years.  BA DA BA BA BA....I'm hating it!

Dick Locher R.I.P.

My friend Patrick Owsley alerted me that Dick Locher, one of our very favorite artists, passed away at 88!  Dick and I had a long chat about his Ronald McDonald painting series from 1970, after I picked one up.  Kroc hired him, after trying to get Norman Rockwell.  Locher exceeded expectations, just as he did with Dick Tracy!  I look at his Ronald painting every day.  Rest in peace.  #dicklocher #chicagotribune #naperville #dicktracy #ronaldmcdonald #raykroc
