Glad to say....it is a good one!  They went back to their original sound and all for the better.  The mood of the album is a little slower BUT if that is what Tim was writing...better to be true to the songs and not try to throw together upbeat stuff that isn't genuine.

KEANE: BAD DREAM

We saw KEANE last night at the CHICAGO THEATRE and like their song "Bad Dream," it was. I have always been a big fan of the band and their music BUT I think they "Jumped the shark" and have certainly lost their "Cool." The feeling was unanimous with the group I went with. Their latest CD NIGHT TRAIN and even the one before PERFECT SYMMETRY, were starting to show signs, but this concert confirmed it for me. I have seen them live three times before and they were all great shows (also, their live DVD from the UNDER THE IRON SEA tour is great too).

We missed the first opening band but unfortunately caught the 2nd. The girl in the 2nd act sang about being a goof and closed with a Brittney Spears song and dance? The girls in the audience thought she was funny and applauded her music. Our group stared at each other in disbelief. Most of the audience in the Chicago Theatre were young girls holding one or two drinks in their hands. I don't have anything against girls with drinks in their hand, but this will give you an idea of the new audience for KEANE.

KEANE suffered from bad sound (Way too bassy and couldn't even make out what Tom was saying between songs), a horrible light show with blinding flashing lights about every 2 minutes, regardless of if it fit the song and an addition of a non-member bass player that was dancing around like his pants were on fire. The band's stage presence was all but gone. I saw the band at their first show on the HOPES AND FEARS tour at the RIVIERA and they had cool bands like THE REDWALLS open. What happened since then?

KEANE in Chicago tonight!

KEANE was on the JIMMY KIMMELL show last night and will be at the CHICAGO THEATRE next wednesday night! Their LIVE show is always amazing!

KEANE is doing a 14 city US TOUR. Even though I don't care much for their new EP, I picked up tickets for their CHICAGO THEATRE performance July 28th! Their LIVE show is Amazing!

NIGHT TRAIN derailed

I hate to say it BUT this was a disappointment. It sounds like KEANE is trying to bring disco back and that is not so KEANE. I thought disco ended wth the disco demolition at Comiskey park in the 1970's? I was really disappointed with the two songs featuring rapper K'NAAN. Why do pop/rock bands insist on adding some rap to their music as a novelty? It is like eating a good steak with a PIZZA instead of a potato...it doesn't work. If I want to hear rap music, I will go and buy rap music...don't put it on my KEANE cd. The song featuring TIGARAH sounds like it should be on THE DISNEY CHANNEL. There are some classic KEANE sounding songs on here...BACK IN TIME, CLEAR SKIES (my favorite) and MY SHADOW, but they are far from their strongest material. One song features a cheesy opening with a synth playing GONNA FLY NOW (Rocky's theme). I hope this EP was just an experiment and the band gets back to POP/ROCK real soon!

KEANE: HOPES AND FEARS DELUXE EDITION (2 discs)

Another AWESOME release today from one of my All-time favorite bands! It is in a book format and features many of their early singles for FIERCE PANDA and ZOOMORPHIC, which I already had BUT it also has some live radio performances including WITH OR WITHOUT YOU by U2. Looking forward to their next studio release. HOPES AND FEARS was a classic!

THE REDWALLS Rock!

We recently added "It's Alright" by THE REDWALLS to THE STARVING ARTISTS live set and I went back and listened to THE REDWALLS CDs and ordered their third. What a GREAT band and they are from Chicago! I first saw them open up for KEANE on their first US tour for HOPES AND FEARS. One of the BEST opening acts I ever saw. Then Josh and I hung out with them at LOLLAPALOOZA. They have kind of an early BEATLES/ROLLING STONES sound and they are very young. They definitely rock and play the kind of music that should be popular right now...given the interest in the BEATLES catalog, etc. They also have a very cool song called "Speed Racer" on their first CD.

KEANE : Perfect Symmetry

At first listen, I did not like the techno pop/dance aspects of KEANE's newly released CD PERFECT SYMMETRY (Their 3rd CD) BUT on second and third listens, it has really grown on me! They are by far one of my favorite bands and no one puts emotion into vocals like Tom does. My favorite tracks are "Again and Again" and "The Lovers Are Losing."
