The voice cast of RANKIN/BASS' THE HOBBIT

c. 1977 RANKIN/BASS PRODUCTIONS/RICK GOLDSCHMIDT ARCHIVES

Everyone's favorite bear! THE BALLAD OF SMOKEY THE BEAR (1966) was the third GENERAL ELECTRIC FANTASY HOUR Produced by RANKIN/BASS...their 2nd in ANIMAGIC (Their first was RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER). One of their most visually appealing specials and one of the rarest! It only aired on the network a few times and features the voice of film legend James Cagney! RANKIN/BASS eye candy!

KEANE is doing a 14 city US TOUR. Even though I don't care much for their new EP, I picked up tickets for their CHICAGO THEATRE performance July 28th! Their LIVE show is Amazing!

www.myspace.com/rgoldschmidt Come out and see us May 29th! THE BRAZEN HEAD 9:45pm featuring Victor Sanchez and guests!

NIGHT TRAIN derailed

I hate to say it BUT this was a disappointment. It sounds like KEANE is trying to bring disco back and that is not so KEANE. I thought disco ended wth the disco demolition at Comiskey park in the 1970's? I was really disappointed with the two songs featuring rapper K'NAAN. Why do pop/rock bands insist on adding some rap to their music as a novelty? It is like eating a good steak with a PIZZA instead of a potato...it doesn't work. If I want to hear rap music, I will go and buy rap music...don't put it on my KEANE cd. The song featuring TIGARAH sounds like it should be on THE DISNEY CHANNEL. There are some classic KEANE sounding songs on here...BACK IN TIME, CLEAR SKIES (my favorite) and MY SHADOW, but they are far from their strongest material. One song features a cheesy opening with a synth playing GONNA FLY NOW (Rocky's theme). I hope this EP was just an experiment and the band gets back to POP/ROCK real soon!

One of Clint's BEST out today!

One of my favorite Frazetta illustrations for MAD MAGAZINE...
Frank's unused color rough for MAD MONSTER PARTY (1966)
one of Frank's MMP designs...

FRANK FRAZETTA R.I.P.

We were sorry to hear of Frank Frazetta's passing today at age 82. He did tons of beautiful art over the years, including all of the RANKIN/BASS' MAD MONSTER PARTY movie poster art and ads. I interviewed his wife Ellie years ago and she was very kind. Frank has been ill for a long time and had a legendary career.
A few cool APES items came in the mail today! This film looks spectacular on BLU RAY! The GOLD KEY comic book is also Excellent!
I rode my bike to WHITE HEN in Alsip, IL to buy all of these cards...still have them too!

Everyone loved SSP Cars!

I saw a few at the toy show a few weeks back...
Troy was based on James Garner.
Gerry Anderson signed this for me! My favorite SUPERMARIONATION series...STINGRAY!
Enjoying a nice day off! Come out and see us at THE BRAZEN HEAD May 29th 9:45pm until around 1:30am in Crestwood, IL! www.myspace.com/rgoldschmidt
