WRIST
Sara and I just got back from my Doctor's office. I had an xray and it looks like my right wrist has been broken for the last 10 days. Have to follow up with a bone specialist, but it doesn't appear it has to be reset.

THE TIKI TERRACE birthday dinner
We had my birthday celebration at THE TIKI TERRACE in Des Plaines, Illinois and it was GREAT! Definitely Shagadelic! We all had a REALLY good dinner and the atmosphere is sensational! Everyone wanted to go back....

Sara, Josh and I decided to watch GRAN TORINO for the holiday on DVD. We saw it at the show and loved it! Even knowing what is going to happen...it still brought a tear to my eyes. I still think it is Clint's BEST film and he should have won an oscar for it.

ALLEN SWIFT
Jon Medford sent me this pic of ALLEN after he finished doing his interview for the NEW MAD MONSTER PARTY DVD documentary. ALLEN did all of the male and monster voices for the film! He is a living legend that did many of the voices on THE HOWDY DOODY SHOW, DIVER DAN, etc. etc. Very happy that Allen was able to participate!

PIXAR's THE ART OF UP book a BIG thumbs UP!
Boy, am I gald I didn't listen to the reviewers at AMAZON on this book. This book is just as good as any of the other of the PIXAR Art of books...maybe even a little better. Tim Hauser did a bang up job! PIXAR also cites RANKIN/BASS as a HUGE influence on the film. They were trying to create that "Animagic" type look and feel, since it was to be in 3-D. I would love to storyboard the next PIXAR classic. After I did my first post about UP, two weeks later I heard the WGN radio morning team saying the same exact things about the heart and warmth, awful trailers from the PIXAR copy cats, etc.
My friend Albert Lozano designed and worked on alot of this film! I LOVE this design (My favorite in the film). Albert and I became friends when he was working at SPUMCO.

Will MAD MONSTER PARTY be on BLU-RAY this time around?
I am told no. I think it is deifintely a missed opportunity for LIONSGATE. The print of the film looks so good, that it would lend itself well to BLU-RAY and there is alot of money to be made. There are no RANKIN/BASS films on BLU-RAY and this is one of the better looking films.

Gale Garnett, the sultry voice of FRANCESCA in RANKIN/BASS' MAD MONSTER PARTY, had a MEGA hit song with "We'll sing in the sunshine." She performed and wrote the song, which would become a classic and performed by people like Dean Martin.

WARNER BROTHERS HOME VIDEO wake up!
My friend Patrick posted this today on his blog www.powsley.blogspot.com of concept art my friend Mark Christiansen www.markscartoonart.blogspot.com did of THE BUGS BUNNY SHOW. I would LOVE to see wonderful box art like this on the Warner Brothers cartoon boxes!!!! This makes me want to buy the cartoons and even own the box BECAUSE it represents the cartoons it is selling! The box art they have used on the WARNER BROTHERS cartoons for the past several years looks awful. I have said this time and time again and why it is airbrushed? I will never know. The person that did it doesn't even know how to use an airbrush. This is more like it! In fact, I will cover up the box art with this if WB issues the BUGS BUNNY SHOW on DVD.
THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!
Love this film from the opening credits to the end credits! Just put it on and fell asleep during it...I am exhausted. I especially love the CLIFF RICHARD and THE SHADOWS scene!

THE DAYDREAMER soundtrack CD
www.percepto.com I was listening to THE DAYDREAMER CD in my car yesterday and today! When I listen to this, it makes me proud to be a part of the RANKIN/BASS group! The soundtrack is outstanding by Maury Laws and Jules Bass! The CD also features some GREAT DEMOS from PUNCH & JUDY and the Jerry Lewis project HEY, BELLBOY. I don't think I ever talked about this before BUT the interview I did with Maury Laws on the disc is over 30 minutes long and besides talking about the DAYDREAMER score, we talk about RUDOLPH, THE BERMUDA DEPTHS, JERRY LEWIS, SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN' TO TOWN, The miser brothers songs, MAD MONSTER PARTY, One Star In The Night from THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY, etc. Maury gives a GREAT interview and really enjoys talking about his career with RANKIN/BASS.

DICK LOCHER
My friend DICK LOCHER (Dick Tracy, Chicago Tribune Editorial cartoonist) was in the newspaper today. He designed a nine foot statue that will be dedicated October 4th, 2009 in Naperville (Where Locher resides). He assisted Chester Gould with the DICK TRACY comic strip from 1957 to 1961 and returned as the sole cartoonist in 1983. Gould was from Woodstock, IL.

Arthur Rankin, Jr. gave me these wood carved salad untensils some years back as a Holiday gift! I took them out for the new DVD material and Paul Baker photographed them. The figures of FANG and DRAC were cerved by the ANIMAGIC figure makers and given to Mr. Rankin as a gift during the making of MAD MONSTER PARTY in 1967. He found them in his Bermuda home and thought I would appreciate them. These are very cool and slightly smaller than the ANIMAGIC figures that were used in the feature film. I can't wait to see all of the materials that are going to be used for the LIONSGATE Disc. I am glad they are trying to get the people that actually worked on the film. I am tired of seeing animation documentaries with people that I really don't even know who they are or why they are in the doc. What is really upsetting is knowing that some of the animators are still around and could have been interviewed, but were not. There are also many voice actors that could add something to the releases.
MAURY & KAREN LAWS
Maury Laws and his beautiful wife Karen were visited by SPARKHILL this past weekend! Maury is the legendary musical composer and conductor for RANKIN/BASS PRODUCTIONS. His interview is back in Hollywood and part of the upcoming DELUXE MAD MONSTER PARTY DVD release by LIONSGATE.
